I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that the last few weeks of winter always drag on longer than they have any right to.  Cabin fever starts setting in, for me, sometime in mid-January.  Once the holiday decorations are down and put away, I begin religiously checking my weather app to track the sunrise and sunset times as they gradually grow farther and farther apart. To say I look forward to Spring is putting it mildly!  This year, my anticipation for sunshine has been accompanied by crafting.  Our theme for the “Inspire My Creativity” link party this month is:  Spring!

Nothing says “Spring” to me quite like flowers.  The colors always seem a little brighter after months of nothing but snow, mud and dead grass.  It’s been said that a person can’t experience joy if he has never experienced sadness.  Along those same lines, I believe that surviving winter brings a much greater appreciation for the new growth that Springtime brings.

For my project this month, I dove into my stash of yarn and pulled out a bunch of colors that made me think of Spring.  These colors came in all different weights and compositions, and I knew they would make some beautiful flowers.

I have always loved to crochet, but it’s been a minute or two since I’ve pulled out my hooks.  It seems that the things that bring me joy are often the things that end up being pushed aside when “life happens”.  These past few weeks have reminded me of the importance of taking time out for myself every now and again.

As I set out to make my flowers, I dug out a crochet pattern book that I picked up at a craft store years ago.  I followed a variety of flower patters, because I wanted my finished project to look like a “wild” flower garden.  I love the way this project has come together!

On the off chance you don’t have any crochet flower patterns, I found this great book at Joann’s that you can order.  There are also lots of places online that you can find patterns.  Or . . . if you’re one of those multi-talented people, you might try coming up with one of your own!

When I started out, I wasn’t really sure what would become of my collection of blooms once they were created.  I thought about stringing them together as a garland, or displaying them in a shadow box or on a blank canvas.  I even considered attaching them to hair clips so my girls could model them.  In the end, though, I decided to use them to make a wreath.  Such a fun, simple project!

Want to make one of your own?  Just follow these four easy steps:

1.  Wrap the wreath form with ribbon.

2.  Secure the ribbon to the wreath form.  (I used hot glue)

3.  Start gluing on flowers.

4.  Continue until your wreath is finished!

With a beautiful, Springtime wreath on my hands, there was nothing left to do but put it on display!  I smile every time I see it, and hope that it brightens the day of anyone that happens to drive by my front door.

What about you?  Ready to create a a bit of Spring?  Well . . . gather your supplies and
